Teletherapy
What is teletherapy?
Teletherapy is online therapy; instead of meeting face-to-face in an office, we meet over your smart phone, tablet, laptop, or computer. It is similar to Skype or FaceTime, but secure and HIPAA compliant.
Is online therapy as effective as traditional therapy?
Yes, online therapy is an easy and effective way to connect to your therapist and make changes in your life. There is over 20 years of research supporting teletherapy services. A 2017 study found that veterans diagnosed with PTSD receiving treatment via online therapy at home achieved results as effective as the veterans receiving the same treatment at an in person clinic.
What are benefits of online therapy?
Benefits of online therapy include:
-
having therapy in the comfort of your own home (or another safe and private location)
-
fitting a therapy appointment easily into your busy schedule
-
no time spent traveling to and from the appointment
-
no stress of dealing with traffic or searching for a parking space
-
no need to arrange for childcare
-
if you are ill and feel well enough to talk, you can attend your appointment without the risk of anyone else getting sick
-
working with a therapist who does not reside in your home town
-
for couples, you don't have to be in the same space to have a session as you can each join with your own link
I'm not that great with technology. Will I be able to do online therapy?
Yes! No matter what your experience level is with technology, you can do online therapy. It is a simple and easy process; an email is sent to you with a link you click on to attend the session.
Why might teletherapy not be a good fit for me?
-
I don't have an email to receive the link or access the client portal for new client paperwork.
-
I don't have access to reliable internet.
-
I don't have a Smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer.
-
I want to be in-person with my therapist.
